Claressa Shields says she ‘could beat up Jake Paul’ and vows never to fight on his undercard
Amanda Serrano appeared on Jake Paul’s most recent undercard, when the social media star-turned-boxer met former UFC champion Tyron Woodley.
Asked if she would also appear on his undercard, Claressa Shields said: “Don’t ever disrespect me. I would never fight on the undercard of Jake Paul. I’m a three-division world champion and a two-time Olympic gold medallist in boxing.
“I would never fight on Jake Paul’s undercard. I don’t know what Amanda Serrano’s purse was – I think it was $75,000-$100,000. I would never fight another boxing match for that money because I’m worth so much more. I’m a $1 million fighter.
“Jake Paul was having a circus show. No disrespect to Tyron Woodley or Jake Paul, but I’m a real boxer.
“I could beat up Jake Paul at the weight class I’m at right now. I would never fight on the undercard of someone who does not possess the skills or accomplishments that I have.”
Savannah Marshall – Clinical puncher returns to action
30-year-old Savannah Marshall (10-0, 8 KOs) has knocked out rivals with one clinical shot, and with flusters of hurtful punches. On 16 October in Newcastle, she faces 30-year-old Zambian Lolita Muzeya (16-0, 8 KOs) in a battle of unbeatens. Marshall is coached by Tyson Fury’s uncle Peter Fury and is regarded as one of the best female boxers on the planet.
If she gets the better of the Muzeya, a grudge match with Claressa Shields could be next for ‘Silent Assassin’ in an early 2022 moment of truth.
26-year-old Shields has only had one loss in her entire career as an amateur and professional. Shields lost to Marshall aged 17 but has since swept the table twice at the Olympics and in the paid ranks.
Ebonie Jones – Inspired by Mike Tyson
“My boxing idol is Mike Tyson; he was just an animal, so aggressive.” 23-year-old Ebonie Jones spoke to Seconds Out Boxing ahead of her professional debut this weekend. The former amateur star fights Vaida Masiokaite on the Chris Eubank Jr. undercard in London. Jones also mentions Katie Taylor as one of her inspirations. “She has paved the way for women’s boxing. I mainly like her because she sticks to who she is.”
‘The Miracle’ is confident of dethroning Shannon Courtenay
Jamie ‘Miracle’ Mitchell is on a mission to continue her inspiring journey as the 36-year-old (6-0-2, 4 KOs) travels to the UK to face WBA bantamweight world champion, Shannon Courtenay (7-1, 3 KOs) on 9 October in Liverpool.
Boxing has helped turn around a challenging upbringing for the American, and the title fight against Courtenay is the culmination of her miraculous relationship with the sport.
“I had pretty rough background growing up as a child,” Mitchell told proboxing-fans.com. “Spent a lot of time in foster care actually my whole life pretty much, from the time I was 10 days old all the way until I was 18-years-old in Los Angeles California Foster Care System.
“Ended up joining boxing when I was 16 as just to kind of outlet my anger and stuff like that I had back then and ended up loving it, basically boxing was my first love.
“I’ve never been on drugs, I’ve never done alcohol, I’ve never smoked cigarettes and to be able to be functionable and be able to beat those statistics, I think is a miracle.”
The Road to Undisputed Begins
On 30 October England’s 30-year-old Chantelle Cameron (14-0, 8 KOs) will be squaring off against USA’s 35-year-old Mary McGee (27-3, 15 KOs) in a unification bout that will determine the first-ever women’s Ring Magazine 140lbs champion.
Cameron vs. McGee is the first clash in a four-way showdown billed as ‘The Road to Undisputed’. The other pair in the battle for 140lbs supremacy, Kali Reis and Jessica Camara, will meet for Reis’ WBA and IBO titles in a contest yet to be scheduled.
