‘A Guiding Light for the Sport’ – WBSS Receives Great 2020 Recognition

Both WBSS Chief Boxing Officer Kalle Sauerland and Cruiserweight Ali Trophy winner Mairis Briedis reach top spots on Boxing News’ prestigious lists for 2020.

Every year, the world’s oldest fight magazine, Boxing News, crowns the best fights and fighters of the year that was and rank the 50 most influential figures in the sport. And the WBSS left its mark on a challenging and unforgettable year.

On the latter list, WBSS Chief Boxing Officer Kalle Sauerland can be found in place No. 7 with some of the motivation reading as follows: “In the messy world of boxing, Kalle’s brainchild of the World Boxing Super Series has proved a guiding light for the sport, and constantly delivered …”

Mairis Briedis, last year’s winner of the Muhammad Ali Trophy in the cruiserweight edition of the WBSS, is No. 6 on the World Fighter of the Year’ list after his enthralling final with Yuniel Dorticos at Plazamedia Studios in Munich.

“Mairis Briedis defeated Yuniel Dorticos to prove he was the best at cruiser,” writes Boxing News.

A few days ago the Latvian sports hero also picked up Sporta Avize’s respected ‘Latvian Athlete of 2020’ award. The magazine surveyed 50 experts to select the WBSS Champion as the recipient of another prestigious prize.
